I spent a little time with ChatGPT to see what it was. ChatGPT is a product of OpenAI, one of Elon Musk’s companies. It is far more than a spell checker or a grammar checker but they tell me it is not in fact intelligent. The company, OpenAI, has several products. These products generate text and art through algorithms and training. OpenAI products include:

As the oldest child, I spent several years alone before my sister was able to do anything more than drool. During this time my friend Franklin kept me company. Franklin was rather tall. He would sit comfortably in the reclining chair in our living room, but his legs stuck out rather far. I warned my mother not to sit on Franklin but I said nothing of his legs. When she tripped over them she yelled that Franklin must go! That’s when Franklin got up and walked out. I never saw my imaginary friend again.

The response wasn’t bad. It changed a few words. But it discounted the conversation pieces in my original. And it reduced that text to a more concise statement. But this lost the feel of the piece.

This response was very good. It only identified the conversation using quotations and commas.

As the eldest child, I spent several years alone before my sister was able to do more than drool. During this time, my imaginary friend Franklin kept me company. He was tall and would often sit comfortably in the living room recliner, but his legs stuck out quite far. I had warned my mother, “Don’t sit on Franklin,” but I said nothing about his legs. One day, she tripped over them and exclaimed, “Franklin must go!” Franklin then got up and walked out, and I never saw him again.
This response combined both of my prompts. Altogether it was a useful response. But it wasn’t autonomous. Perhaps my prompt was stifling. Or perhaps the sample wasn’t large enough. But it was interesting. I’ll let you know if I try any additional prompts!
