In 2021, I captured a first generation Tesla Roadster leaving a parking lot in La Jolla, California! When Tesla produced the Roadster, the first production car was delivered to Elon Musk. On February 6, 2018, Elon Musk launched his red Roadster into space! As far as I can tell, it was the first car launched into space. Tesla produced the Roadster from 2008-2012.
The Roadster grew from the desire of Martin Eberhard, founder of Tesla, to find a sports car that also had good gas mileage. Since he couldn’t find one, he set out to build his own. Read more in the original WIRED story or check out Wikipedia.
